Sept. 2, 2002

Ryan Kneipper.

Ryan Kneipper, a senior forward from Dallas, Texas, is the Carolina Waterscapes Tar Heel Student-Athlete of the Week for August 26-September 1.

Kneipper scored three goals in two games as the men's soccer team opened defense of its national championship with a pair of wins in the Carolina Nike Classic.

Kneipper scored both UNC goals, including the game-winner with just three seconds left in regulation, to beat 11th-ranked Saint Louis, 2-1 on Sunday.

Two nights earlier in the season opener, Kneipper scored the first of two Carolina goals in a 2-1 overtime triumph over Akron.

Other nominees:
Wide receiver Sam Aiken, who had 174 yards receiving and a touchdown in the loss to Miami;

Safety Dexter Reid, who had a career-high 21 tackles against the RedHawks;

Outside hitter Laura Greene, who had 10 kills in the match-clinching fourth game in volleyball's win over 10th-ranked Wisconsin and was the MVP of the Carolina Nike Classic;

Cross Country runners Alice Schmidt and Brian McGovern led the Tar Heels to a sweep of the team titles at the Campbell Invitational. Schmidt won the women's race and McGovern was second in the men's race.
