CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - After posting a 1-2 record at last weekend's Virginia Duals, the North Carolina wrestling team hosts Atlantic Coast Conference rival NC State (2-2) at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Carmichael Auditorium. The Tar Heels (1-2) defeated the Wolfpack twice during the 2003 season.

Last time out the Tar Heels dropped a 21-18 match to Rider in the consolation bracket of the Virginia Duals, while the Wolfpack dropped two of three at the NC State Duals last weekend. Drexel, who the Tar Heels face Saturday in Newtown, Pa., defeated the Wolfpack, 20-14, on Jan. 10.

The upper-weight groups, led by junior Mark Canty (184 pounds), junior Venroy July (197 pounds) and senior Ryan Adams (heavyweight), have been a strong point for the Tar Heels this season. Canty is 13-12 on the year, July is 13-11 and Adams owns a team-best 16-9 record. July won two of his three matches at the Virginia Duals last weekend.

For the Wolfpack, junior Alex Hernandez at 141 pounds owns a team-best nine wins on the season and is 3-1 in dual matches. Seniors Scott Garren (157 pounds) and Dustin Kawa (165 pounds) each stand 8-2 in 2003-04.

Carolina and NC State will also meet Feb. 11 in Raleigh.
