April 22, 2003

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina wrestling team took its first step in repeating next year as Atlantic Coast Conference Champions with the signing of North Carolina's own Drew Forshey announced by head coach C.D. Mock. Forshey became the third wrestler in 69 years of competition to win four North Carolina state championships at Hickory St. Stephens High School.

"Drew is without a doubt one of the best wrestlers in the history of North Carolina and we are thrilled that he has decided to continue his academic and athletic career here at UNC," said head coach C.D. Mock. "He will add depth to the 125 pound weight class, currently occupied by All-America Chris Rodrigues.

" I think they will help each other improve significantly."

Forshey finished his career in high school with an overall record of 215-2. He took the Indians to the State Dual Finals two straight seasons and won the state title at 125 pounds in his senior year (54-1). In his junior season, Forshey finished 56-1 and won the state crown at 119 pounds. He competed at 112 pounds as a sophomore and ended 55-0. As a freshman, he went undefeated at 103 pounds ending the year 50-0.

Forshey will join a very talented North Carolina team in the Fall of 2003. The Tar Heels return All-Americans Evan Sola (2003-133 pounds) and Chris Rodrigues (2002-125 pounds), along with the ACC Tournament's Most Valuable Wrestler Dusty Heist (184 pounds).
