Carolina Golfers Finish 19th At NCAA West Regional

LINCOLN, CALIF. -

The University of North Carolina women's golf team finished in 19th place at the NCAA West Regional. Carolina carded a 18-over-par 306 in the final round for a 914 total at Lincoln Hills Golf Club. Southern California topped the 21-team field with a nine-under-par 855 total after posting a four-under 284.

Carolina junior Sydney Crane led the Tar Heels in the final round. The Jamestown, N.C. native fired a one-over-par 73 for a five-over 221 total to tie for 22nd place. Kate Thomas, a sophomore from Murwillumbah, Australia, carded a six-over 78 for a 225 total and tied for 44th place. Junior Lauren Hun, from Little River, S.C., posted a five-over 77 on Saturday for a 230 total to tie for 76th while senior Ann Laney, from Charlotte, N.C., carded an 80 for a 240 total and tied for 98th and senior Colette Lowe, from Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., finished one shot back at 241 in 100th place after posting a six-over 78 in the final round.

Southern California, which led throughout the tornament, posted a 15-stroke win as runner-up Arizona State finished with a six-over 870 after firing a one-over 289 on Saturday. UNLV was third at 879 while Arizona finished fourth at 880 and Oklahoma State and Arkansas tied for fifth place with 882 totals. Tulsa finished seventh at 884 and three teams, UC Davis, Ohio State and Stanford tied for eighth place with 892 totals. UC Davis defeated Ohio State and Stanford in a playoff as the eighth team that advances on to the NCAA Championship.

 

 

Therese Koelbaek of UNLV and Alison Walshe of Arizona tied for individual medalist honors at six-under-par 210. Koelbaek carded a one-over 73 in the final round while Walshe fired a three-under 69. Stefanie Endstrasser of Southern California and Azahara Munoz of Arizona State finished one stroke behind the co-winners at five-under 211. Jaclyn Sweeney of Oklahoma State finished fifth at 213 while Arkansas' Kristin Ingram and Southern California's Dewi Claire Schreefel tied for sixth place at two-under 214.

The 54-hole event was played at Lincoln Hills Golf Club which features a par 72, 6,338-yard layout. The top eight teams and top two individuals not on those eight teams advance on to the NCAA Championship to be played May 20-23 at the University of New Mexico Championship Golf Course in Albuquerque, N.M.
