New Softball Complex Continues To Progress

Oct. 5, 2001

Carolina's new softball complex is quickly taking shape.

Most of the sod has been installed, with the rest of job scheduled to be competed on Monday.

Roger Hall, who is overseeing design and construction of the field, spreads brick dust along the first base warning track. Brick dust will soon be distributed over the outfield warning track.

Roger Hall demonstrates the innovative "floating fence" being installed at the field. Dubbed "Roger's Outrigger" by Hall, the fence features several important safety features: It gives with a trampoline effect upon impact and features posts that are set several feet back from the mesh.

Fence posts have been installed around the outfield.

A spot behind the right field line has been levelled for the bullpen and batting cages.

The new field will have ample space for teams to warm up in batting cages and bullpens.

Poles that will suspend the backstop have been installed at the adjacent practice field.
